How Not to Be in Union, part 4: Giving Away Your Power

The Temptation to Give Away Power

When you’re on the twin flame path, there are moments of such desperation that almost anything feels like it could bring relief. I remember one of those moments clearly. Things with my twin felt impossible — nothing I did seemed to shift the connection. Out of fear and longing, I signed up for a “twin flame school” hoping someone could give me guidance.

Instead, in my very first session, the teacher spent the entire time telling me that my twin wasn’t my twin. I left devastated, physically sick for weeks, questioning everything I had felt so deeply in my soul.

This is how it happens. Out of pain and confusion, we give someone else authority over our truth.

Red Flags of Authority-Abuse in the Twin Flame Space

It’s not always obvious when this is happening, but there are patterns to look for:

  • Absolutist claims: “That’s not your twin,” or “This is the only path to union.”
  • Financial pressure: upselling the next program, telling you you’re “not doing enough” unless you buy more.
  • Shaming or gaslighting: making you doubt your inner knowing if you push back or question them.
  • Cutting you off from intuition: leaving you dependent on their word rather than your own resonance.

The Cost of Giving Away Your Power

When you hand over your authority, the damage lingers:

  • You can feel destabilized, hopeless, even physically unwell.
  • You lose trust in your own inner compass.
  • You risk getting stuck on the endless “healing treadmill” instead of actually relating to your twin as a person.
  • You extend separation — not because the love isn’t real, but because you’re chasing someone else’s framework instead of grounding in your own.

The Alternative: Rooting in Your Own Authority

Your authority matters. No coach, guru, or teacher gets to define your connection for you.

Some reminders:

  • Truth feels like resonance, not pressure.
  • No one outside of you has the final word on who your twin is.
  • Guidance that reconnects you with your own clarity is healthy; guidance that disconnects you from it is not.
  • Your deepest authority is shared with Source, not owned by another human being.

A good question to hold: Does this advice bring me back to my own knowing, or does it make me more dependent on someone else?

Closing Reflection

If you’ve been told your twin isn’t your twin, or that you have to pay for one more activation, one more program, one more step to “finally make it work,” know this: your connection isn’t theirs to define.

Your authority, your truth, your power — that’s the ground everything else grows from. Don’t give it away.
